RAMALLAH, October 19, 2016 (WAFA) – The Jerusalem resolution formally adopted by UNESCO’s executive board hit the front page headlines in the Wednesday issue of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.

They said the adoption of the resolution by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) confirms the Islamic character of Al Aqsa Mosque compound, according to the headlines in al-Quds and al-Ayyam dailies.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported Palestinian cabinet hailing the resolution as being just to the Palestinian people.

Tensions at the mosque compound were also covered in the front page headlines of dailies.

The three dailies said Jewish fanatics forced their way into the mosque compound under the protection of Israeli police.

Al-Ayyam explained that over 200 fanatics stormed the mosque compound and that a total of 1,132 Israeli Jews stormed it since the start of October.

Al-Ayyam reported head of the Islamic Waqf department, which runs the mosque compound, Sheikh Azzam al-Khatib as warning the Israeli government was attempting to change the status quo at the mosque.

Highlighting Israeli raids, al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said Israeli forces prevented Palestinian farmers from harvesting their olive trees near the Nablus town of Asira al-Shamaliya.

The three dailies said settlers stormed and performed religious rituals at the archeological town of Sabastiya, near Nablus.

Furthermore, al-Quds highlighted Foreign Minister Riad Malki’s participation in the 43rd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation held in Tashkent.

He was reported as stating that history would not exonerate those who remain silent about the injustice caused to the Palestinian people.

The three dailies said Israel turned down a request to transfer the remains of two Fatah cofounders, Khalil al-Wazir, also known as Abu Jihad, and Saad Sayil, for burial in the West Bank.

The graves of the two Fatah cofounders in Yarmouk refugee camp in Syria were vandalized by members of the so-called Islamic State.
